Road to Zero

At Sony, we appreciate that our operations as a corporation are dependent on the good health of the environment. That’s why we’ve created our global environmental plan, Road to Zero, which aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint throughout the life cycle of our products and business activities by 2050.

Meet our Original Blended Material

The Xperia 1 VI packaging uses Sony's OBM (Original Blended Material), which is made from bamboo, sugarcane fibres, and recycled paper, all of which are readily available around the world's largest manufacturing hubs in Asia. The Xperia factory is also located in Asia, meaning that the device production is closer to the OBM resources, reducing the transport carbon print.

We're making packaging environmentally conscious

As part of our environmentally conscious initiative drive, the Xperia 1 VI packaging has eliminated plastic components or replaced them with paper materials. We've also made the packaging slim and compact.

We're using more recycled plastic

More than 85%0 of the Xperia 1 VI's plastic parts are made from recycled materials12. One of those materials is SORPLAS™, developed by Sony. SORPLAS™ is a recycled plastic with the environment in mind, that offers high performance, making it ideal for our new products. We make use of SORPLAS™ in our devices whenever possible to use this special material without quality compromise.

Assembly with 100% renewable electricity

Sony Group aims to achieve 100% renewable electricity use by 2030. That’s why the Xperia 1 VI is already assembled in a plant that uses electricity generated 100% from renewable sources.
