A well built phone. Being narrow easy to hold
Xperia 5 III 13 June 2022 by Vidmit (United Kingdom)
Replacement for zx2 compact, as it's not much wider. great to use as the interface hasn't changed much. I know my old phone was a few years old but I would like a camera setting where there are no menus, just click (Sony, super simple mode). Battery seems to last long enough me me. Overall a good phone

Great on paper
Xperia 5 III 08 September 2023 by Hekmat (United Kingdom)
The phone is great on paper. But in practice, there's much to be improved. The first thing is the uncomfortable lack of thermal management. It gets hot by only scrolling through social media. I did send it to repair because I guess the fp sensor stopped working because of this issue. The screen is much dimmer than the competition. So pay heed. Finally there is the lack of support. Only two years of Android updates mean the phone is dead in terms of support already. Not even security updates will this phone receive for more years. The competition is way ahead. I do not recommend this product unfortunately.

Not as good as the XZ premium
Xperia 5 III 10 July 2024 by TheDJTC (USA)
I'm so frustrated with the fingerprint sensor, it only works if there's zero protection on and even THEN it's finicky! I've done everything from having dupe profiles for my thumb to destroying the case so that there's more exposure for the thumb and it just will not register! The feature might as well not exist. My old XZ premium still works (even if the screen's broken) so I have no idea what happened here??? The camera's excellent but I'm too much of a n00b to get max use out of the features. My prior phone was a Nokia G50 and honestly this thing isn't much better, not worth the extra $500 price. Like it's so freaking aggravating I'm debating just turning security off so it's less annoying turning on. I had to post this after one too many times of the accursed thing not working. I've cleaned it with cloth, paper, alcohol, NOTHING works. It's just cheap garbage. If you're fine putting in a PIN every time or don't care if anyone else can turn it on then this is fine but I'd just save money and get a Nokia unless you just really need a slightly better camera.

iPhone & Galaxy Killer
Xperia 5 III 31 May 2024 by Papabear_13 (USA)
been using Sony Xperia for at least 10 years, 4th or 5th phone. I have an iPhone for my company phone, and I used a Galaxy for a short time prior to this one, just to see what the hub-ub was about. As far as camera, second to none. Streamlined Android OS. Fast. Dedicated button for camera and dedicated button for Google Assistant. Water-proof. Still has and audio jack for headphones or aux, big plus for me. Not a fan of the automatic updates, as I really don't see much change, usually Android updates that I don't want. Root it and be done with every other phone on the market.

Xperia 5 III 12 March 2024 by Robin hood 123 (United Kingdom)
This is the 3rd Xperia, and I like the operating system etc. but less than a year old and the GPS went wrong and finally stopped altogether. I tried the online help and did everything that they said. Eventually I took it back to the shop where I bought it from. They sent it to the manufacturers repair facility, who posted it back to me when completed. I have one or two apps that I can't get working. Which I can live without. But the GPS appears to be working now. Maps etc seem to function as intended., although I am not using it as intensive as I once did.

Good phone but...
Xperia 5 III 11 March 2024 by Kennywb (United Kingdom)
This phone works well. I particularly like the photo app. Everything works as it should except... After approximately 9 months, the fingerprint sensor stopped working. I returned it to the seller for repair. However, after setting up phone on return, the fingerprint sensor would not fully register and I cannot use it again. I've read that others have had same problem. Seems pointless returning again despite phone still under warranty. I've had several sony phones before and always liked them (despite some issues), however, my experience with this phone would make me think twice about buying another. I see there is a question about "recommend to a friend". It's a qualified "yes" but only if the fingerprint sensor could be guaranteed to work 100%

Capable yet lacking
Xperia 5 III 13 January 2024 by 80sgeek (United Kingdom)
I'll start with the fact I was an Ericsson user and have used Sony ever since they merged. And in the past the phones have felt a little under powered but made up for it with some really simple & useful Sony software. Well this has flipped that in my opinion. The hardware has plenty to give, but getting rid of basic stuff like the album and email app, crippling the music APP and only including some very pro styles Camera apps (why can't I use one app for photo and video, it's maddening) really hampers this device. Add to that the failing fingerprint reader, the slight haze around the telephoto camera and the fact that camera is only 12MP not the 20MP of my XZ. Again the hardware is great, having the expandable storage and 3.5mm jack is awesome for me, but Sony have just given up on apps and left everything to Google. And personally I don't want everything constantly uploading and being scanned and sorted when my device has the storage and power to do it.

Very good, but could be a little bit better
Xperia 5 III 12 January 2024 by JoolsBerko (United Kingdom)
Have had this for 14 months - most of the time excellent, though when on a call the front screen is very sensitive and can put the call on hold by contact with ear! Two significant issues - 1. The fingerprint sensor dies, and it is impossible to reactivate it if you delete any stored fingerprint. 2. Depending on your Mobile Provider, you need them to activate the Wifi Calling (essential in areas of little to no mobile connection), but if the phone resets itself (which it has done on occasions), then you need to contact your Provider to get them to reconfigure the phone for Wifi Calling - so this should be an option solely on the phone (if your contract has Wifi Calling built-in) not something that needs a 20 minute call on a landline to the Provider to reset the settings remotely. Have always had Sony phones and Sony products, would not choose other manufacturers for phone, TV, Music, Car systems, etc, and the overall design and build quality is superb, but Sony need to ensure they iron out bugs, and enable the customers to be able to activate / reset option that are already paid for, rather than potentially being without a device whilst it undergoes repairs, and when resolved the customer has to start the device and personalise it as if back to square one.

Worst Sony Phone Ever
Xperia 5 III 27 October 2023 by ThisSonyisPony (United Kingdom)
Over the last 10+ years I've only had Sony phones (5 different handsets). Each one has somehow been an improvement on the last - and way ahead of Apple in terms of features such as being waterproof. The Xperia 5 III is however a giant step-back, especially when compared to current competitors. If you actually have to use your phone for work, photos, maps etc the battery WILL NOT LAST a full day, you will need to carry a charger around with you. This has caused frequent problems with work and despite being a passionate advocate of Sony phones, I would only now buy another if it has a completely different battery, CPU and processor, perhaps akin to its predecessors. This is very, very disappointing and I'm now stuck in contract for another 18 months with a 'mobile' phone that is anything but and nearly obsolete.

Buggy phone, broke after 18 months
xabq62-b 19 September 2023 by DK85 (USA)
Any of its good features notwithstanding like the 120 mhz screen and the camera, the phone is immensely prone to pocket dialing no matter what I do, the camera turns on on its own, and after 18 months the charging port broke. So now I have a broken phone that was never very good in the first place. If it had wireless charging I could at least charge it that way but it doesn't. I will avoid Sony phones in the future.

Shockingly bad product at a very high price.
Xperia 5 III 27 August 2023 by Julian67 (United Kingdom)
The Xperia 5 III has dire overheating problems. I sent mine back for a refund after it continually overheated and crashed, preventing me from being able to make videos and interrupting still photography by crashing the camera app. This was on a day with temperature of only 20 degrees C! It's a shame, as the camera's stills are processed much more naturally than on my Samsung, but you can't take pictures or make video on a device which doesn't work. I would never recommend a Sony Xperia 5 III. It is a shockingly bad product at a very high price.

Comfortable size, easy to use, excellent camera, only downside is the antenna, on previous Xperia phones that I have purchased I've managed to use the mobile hot spot and tethering quite comfortably, but on this phone the connection keeps dropping and the internet connection is slow. Looking to see if there's away I can boost the antenna signal. But overall very happy with the phone.

I love the size and design particularly the dedicated camera shutter button. However the phone gets hot when playing video & the battery can be either very good lasting all day or terrible not draining very quickly when using maps The camera in basic is ok & you can get deep into changing fstop/shutter speed etc but only in portrait mode which makes it slightly annoying. Overall a nice device that could/should be improved with better camera software & battery performance.

Great pictures, fast system
Xperia 5 III 08 December 2022 by Rebentrost (United Kingdom)
I used to have an older Sony Experia and liked the idea that I didn't have to get used to some whole new system. I like the way this phone sits in your hand and it isn't as long as it first seemed. I selected this Experia again because of the brilliant colours in the photos. Being an artist and taking lots of colourful pictures, this is very important. There is no instruction manual, but these days you have to look everything up online. Also, the transfer of my old phone to the new one was very frustrating, but it worked in the end. I found it a bit tricky getting to all the apps initially, but in fact you only have to swipe up the screen. Simples, but you have to find it first. The most frustrating thing is the on/off button. Even though I have put in various positions of my fingerprint, the button rarely works and you have to use your pin each time. Also, the "button" is a lot less pronounced than on my older camera. Sony probably wanted to streamline the case, but the on/off really is difficult to find. Even so, I will be keeping it, I like it in other ways.

Nice but narrow
XQBQ62/G 25 September 2022 by ReeRia (USA)
I really liked the Xperia 5 III for the few days I had it. It's very light and slim. The camera is remarkable! The graphics and processor were wonderful. However, the phone is very narrow.....way too narrow (across). It's almost half the size than any phone I've seen! I compared it to my Motorola phone as well as my daughter's OnePlus and my granddaughters iPhone. It's nowhere near the length as those phones. With it being so narrow, I felt that everything was squeezed in, which made viewing things difficult for me. If Sony where to make the phones wider, then I would definitely buy it because all other aspects of the phone were great.

for everyday use this phone is able to handle any daily tasks, battery life isn't an issue after a full days worth of usage. However after updating to the latest android version, google search bar always crashes after a few seconds, other issues include the phone getting quite hot after moderate usage which throttles the phone, and the camera in video mode is quite slow with the auto-focus sometimes.

Sloppy development
XQBQ62/B 27 August 2022 by lunalsmojo (USA)
I'm really torn on this one... for years I've been a diehard Pixel user, but I couldn't follow the move to the new Tensor SoC. I spent a loooot of time shopping around and I could not decide where to go. At the end of the day, I chose this phone because it's a Sony phone... I've owned several Sony products over the years, and I've always been satisfied -- Sony is one of the few brand names I trust. But this is why it's upsetting.... I love the actual device -- audio quality is slightly above average phones, the camera is amazing (I mean, it's a Sony camera....), and Sony hit the mark dead on with the Xperia 5 III regarding screen-size/pocket-friendly ratio. The thing is, though, there's no shortage of quality hardware on the smartphone market. For a device like a smartphone, a multi-purpose computer for your pocket, quality software can make mediocre hardware seem great, and quality hardware is pointless with mediocre software. The Xperia 5 III runs a pretty bland version of Android, not far from AOSP. Most of the major departures from straight AOSP, it seems, are in fact Google apps (messaging, dialer, calendar, files, etc).... Other than the pre-installed system bloatware, that is (admittedly, I am a huge fan of the Photography Pro). The OS seems just kinda subtly buggy, and for some reason my bluetooth is always delayed by 5 seconds. But the thing that gets me all riled up more than anything, is my Android 12 smartphone is running an Android 11 vendor image. I'm not going to go into ALL the details about HALs and ramdisks and permissions changes came along with Android 12, but it just makes sense that we'd want the same versions of software available on each of the partitions (audio HAL -> v7 on system, v6 on vendor).

Now is the time to try Xperia.
Xperia 5 III 24 July 2022 by Alexzanda (United Kingdom)
For years I've looked at Xperia smartphones but never bought one. I've always admired the design and build quality of the Sony Xperia range. Having become disappointed with the poor hardware of the Pixel's and terrible software of Galaxy phone I finally bought the Xperia 5 Mk.iii two weeks ago and immediately bought a Xperia 10 Mk.iv for my daughter. I love the simplicity of stock Android and I commend Sony for only adding the finishing touches that improve things like the camera, audio and video experience. And all in a elegantly compact one handed design, so refreshing! This is the first phone I've owned were the fingerprint sensor works every time and is in the perfect spot. I think I've found the right smartphone brand at last and I'm looking forward to what Sony brings to the Xperia line in future.

Xperia 5 III 24 July 2022 (United Kingdom)
Upgraded from first version Sony Xperia 5, so already aware of quality features and a fan of Sony products. Very pleased to see Sony has fixed the unreliable FPS issue from the first version - no issues encountered with the version III phone at all. The only criticism - I wish Sony would avoid pre-installing bloatware e.g. Asphalt 9; Call of Duty; Facebook; Netflix; TIDAL etc. Furthermore, I can't even uninstall these Apps, only Disable them. Other than that it is a fine phone - great processor, good battery life, super screen definition; sterling sound and does everything I need it to.

Great Camera Phone
XQBQ62/B 22 July 2022 by Flockig (USA)
I just bought this two days ago. I was looking for a good camera phone for a while now. For the price and customization of photos and videos, it's more than worth it. You might not have the megapixels as some other phones, but you don't really need that if you have great software behind the cameras. This makes a world of difference when taking photos and video. There are phones with 108-megapixel cameras but if you don't have the right software behind the powerful camera, it is worthless. Sony does know how to make great regular cameras. So, I was really happy to see some of that tech and software make it into the phone. It will take a little for me to get used to because it's a smaller phone than I have had for the past 6 years (I tend to keep phones for a while. My last phone was the HP elite x3 windows phone). It's almost the same length but about a 1/2 inch smaller in width. It does fit in my hand well since it is a little smaller. So that's a good thing. The display is gorgeous on it. I really do feel like it's a little handheld TV. I still have a lot to explore with this phone and I am excited to do so.

If your look for a good phone but don't know what to get well the sony Xperia 5 iii has you cover, it's not only sleek but it is a very powerful machine. It has a 6.1 0led display with 120 hz and comes packed with a snap dragon 888. It can play lots of game including Wii games if you know how to get them. This phone has an amazing camera that you can literally create beautiful photos, also the camera is not just an ordinary camera it copies the alpha cameras that Sony has made you have different setting that you can mess with and it also has cinema pro that lets you create amazing video or short movies if you like. This phone has been amazing for me and if your good at using DSLR cameras this phone is for you. This is no promotion this all my very own opinion. Thx Sony for making a beautiful phone

Bought this to replace the X/Z 2 Compact, which was my favorite phone that I've ever had. This current phone has strange proportions (oddly tall) so I would recommend seeing it in person before you buy it. Two main issues: all of the buttons, including the finger sensor are on the side where you try to grip the phone. I accidentally unlock the phone more than I would like to. Also, the swipe-down shortcuts are frequently activated in my pocket, while locked. I'll take my phone out sometimes and the flashlight will be going and Bluetooth will have been turned on. That's really frustrating.

Sony phones are some of the few that still have the 3.5mm headphone jack and a flat screen while still performing competitively with apple and Samsung. No bloatware, super fast screen, and the 5 iii fits so nicely in my pocket that I can still play guitar without having to take it out. There's minimal photo processing, so photos don't look as crisp out of the box, but that's good if you're trying to take selfies that don't make your face look 20 years older than it is.

Have been using this for a couple of months and I am generally very happy with it. My only problem is the fingerprint reader on the power button. Can often unlock the phone as input it into my pocket or similar due to reader being on the power button and I regularly using that to lock the device as I put it into my pocket. Leaving the finger slightly too long on the power button will unlock it again.

Full of New and Unseen Features
Xperia 5 III 22 May 2022 by teddynow (United Kingdom)
For me this device has four stand out features which are the display, cameras, audio and the game enhancer features. The display has quality features and functions that I have never seen in any other device that make it so much nicer to use. Also the 120Hz fresh rFe and the 240Hz sample rates make the phone a breeze and super intuitive to use. As a photographer the cameras allow you to super fine tune your shots with the Sony Aplha software being utilised, which is unlike anything else on the market. I love the speakers on the phone (both front facing) and super clear as Sony has implemented many fine tuning settings and quality controls - this also goes for any Sony headphones too. And the last stand out feature for me is the game enhancer, I do not often game on mobile at all though it does allow me to really fine tune my experience similar to what I may expect on a PC or PS. The H.S Power Control setting, is most likely a battery life saver in the coming months/years. (please add H.S Power Control system wide, so it can be utilised at anytime!!)

Great Sound, Crappy Camera
Xperia 5 III 20 May 2022 by Keksyj (United Kingdom)
I'm hard of hearing so the sound quality is important to me, this is the best phone I have ever had for the primary purpose, ie making pone calls. However the camera stopped working after a system upgrade, and no help from Sony, shame.

Been using my Sony Xperia 5 iii for a month now, it's a joy to use, I am a Sony fan, this is my 7th in a row, the tech and battery you get is impressive. I have always liked to be different from the masses, Sony is waterproof, also has a 3.5 mm headphones jack and battery life is great.

Speedy phone and battery that last the whole day and more. Down side, location of the finger print sensor is not ideal. Always turn on the screen unintentionally.

Xperia 5 III 17 May 2022 by JAWHY (United Kingdom)
Recently upgraded my old Xperia Z5 to a Xperia 5III - couldn't be happier with choice. Its not the uber latest Sony phone, but it has all the goodies I need, especially the brilliant media bias - awesome screen fantastic refresh, great sound and excellent camera. If you are looking for a great phone and you are into music, gaming and movies - Xperia 5II is a great choice.

I was eyeing for the last unit Xperia 1ii but was unavailable. Decided to take 5iii instead. I love how it feels in the hands and physical buttons just within reach. Awesome photos, great sounds from the speakers.

Great Features
Xperia 5 III 07 May 2022 by Tendo (United Kingdom)
I bought this recently and at first I started thinking I made a mistake as I had moved on from my Sony XZ3. In using the phone, I started realising it has features that my XZ3 hasn't and the camera is amazing!!! It captured amazing photos when I went to a wedding which my XZ3 wouldn't have captured. I was pleased with the camera and the multi-tasking feature, the Dolby Atmos sound setting, the 360 spatial sound and the DSEE Ultimate. I was so happy that the dynamic vibration feature was kept in the phone and this was also in my XZ3. I do love the cinema pro as well as it captures great videos and can't wait to keep using this phone. To add to this, it's also very lightweight and gaming on the phone is amazing, specially with the game enhancement feature. I do wish however, it was easy to find the phone in UK phone shops as I couldn't have a look at it prior to buying it, but happy that I managed to get it from Sony and in green, my favourite colour. The battery is also really good, mine lasts until the next day and doesn't drain quickly. Definitely worth my money!

Phone does everything better than the rest, only thing I'd love more would be if was back to a Compact size phone, but speed, camera display etc are all brilliant along with the battery life.

Excellent Camera & Audio
Xperia 5 III 24 April 2022 by PaulieW (United Kingdom)
Bought this to replace my previous Xperia 10 which was becoming a bit slow. As I enjoy taking photographs I was looking for a versatile Camera Phone which the Xperia 5 111 has. Just returned from Holiday and have been very impressed with the pictures. Also the whole phone is much quicker with great visuals etc.

Loving my return to Xperia

I've been using Huawei (P30 Pro) from 2019 to 2021 and Samsung (S21). I have to say, Xperia still feels a lot better in use. 1. Not as heavy as Huawei's phones in a similar category, slimmer form factor than both Hua Wei and Samsung. Feels more natural to hold in the hand with one-handed operation. 2. UI feels a lot less bloated than both those other brands. Comfortable with more stock Android apps than bloatware. 3. Camera renders colour more naturally, and is easier to navigate the app and do manual shots. 4. Stamina Mode better than comparative apps on the other 2 phone makers, battery drain seems more manageable. A problem with Samsung (but not Huawei) is that after less than 6 months of use the battery drained rapidly even with light use. My experience with past Xperia models was better even with moderate to heavy use, with battery drain remaining good past the 1.5 year mark. Hope the 5III lives up to it. 5. Xperia's waterproofing has never failed me on pervious models. My Huawei died after 15min in storm conditions during a run, 18 months into use. My old Xperia phones are still going strong. Hope the 5III lives up to pedigree. However, the cost is on the high side. That Sony can throw in a free set of earphones suggests that the price can be lower.

Xperia 5 III 17 April 2022 by AN48 (United Kingdom)
I have had Sony phones for many years until you changed the screen size to 21:9 I had a Xperia 1 but it was to tall in my pocket. I swapped it for a Samsung Galaxy but I still find myself coming back to Sony. The Xperia 5iii is just right in size and the battery life is very good I have had it a couple of weeks and I am very pleased. If Sony could just offer 3-4 years of updates it would be perfect.
