I had the 100-400 mm but needed the extra reach. Using the tele converter slowed the lens down. The 200-600 mm has been great lens. Would be greater if version 2 can be lighter!

Bought it about a month ago, and being using it since. Best lens for birding.

I've been using this levs for a couple of months and taken some truly fantastic photos. It's good either on a tripod or hand held. My photos have included a variety of birds, both birds of prey and in my garden.

The lens is everything I expected, solid construction and great image quality. The only downside being the carry strap with is the same strap as my a7cr, which is not sufficient or comfortable for a lens of this size and weight. As the lens is quite expensive I think it is a little mean of sony not to supply a more substantial strap. A purchased a peak design strap and discarded the sony strap.

This lens is so versatile and the fact it has an internal zoom with keeps it sealed from dust and weather and with effortless and fast change from 200-600 is fantastic for moving subjects and the biggest bang you will get for your money from any lens! its that good I brought 2!

Great optics. Heavier and longer than I anticipated perhaps should’ve gotten the 100-400 with 1.4 extender

This lens is very sharp even at 600mm unlike some other makes. This is very important as this is the only focal length that you may need to crop into the image at for wildlife etc.

Like most of us, I did the research - best long zoom for my A7iv! Obvious 2 were the 100-400 and this. Having my used a 70-200 with 2x teleconverter (which wasn’t bad at all), I decided on the reach of the 600, with some hesitation after reading how good the 100-400 was. I needn’t have worried. G lens for a reason, the lens is sharp across all the zoom range and at 600 and cropping in, I’m really pleased with the IQ. Build is amazing - if a little heavy, but you soon get into it. Feels like money well spent, so highly recommended!

Amazing quality but too heavy to use comfortably handheld

I have had this lens for three years and thousands of sport frames, college and pros - the Sony 200-600 works well with all my Sony mirrorless cameras - 1/3 of a turn from 200-600 - light in weight - also shot some mountainscapes for personal files - a must lens :)

I bought this a month ago and have used for action photography. It captures focus so quickly with my A7iii, and the detail is outstanding

Glad i bought this for sport and wildlife photography

I have only had this lens for a couple of weeks but since attaching it to my also new Sony A7iv it hasn't come off. I have had so many sharp keeper images from this lens and camera combination. Focus is quick, images are sharp and it's half the weight of my previous camera and lens combination. I love this lens so much I have now moved over to owning just a Sony system.

Use this with a 1.4x and get great photos of birds and other wildlife.

Have had other zoom lenses but have to say this one is the most impressive so far. Even able to hand hold at 600mm and get a sharp image.

I have been using this lens in a wide variety of uses now for 2.5 years and have always enjoyed using this lens for a variety of reasons - not to mention I have taken many great images on this lens. Like any lens you buy, there are going to be specific things you may use this lens for; I personally use it for surf related subjects as I need the reach that my 70-200 simply can get and still need the full quality of the image however, I have used this lens in a variety of ways including surf shots, portrait shots, moon imagery, birding/animal, and landscape/sea scape. I have also used this lens to capture some really nice slow shutter speed imagery as well. This lens is not only extremely lightweight for its size, it's tack sharp. If you are looking for a fairly reasonable budget, this lens will fit that for the amount of lens you are getting. You can shoot subjects as wide as 200mm and have the reach of up to 600mm (plus the option to add either the 1.4x or the 2x teleconverter to this lens. I commonly am using mode 2 or 3 on the lens pending which subject I am shooting and what is happening with the action. In my opinion, this is by far Sony's best "bang for you buck lens" if you are in need of a telephoto lens. I would say that for the pricepoint of this lens and the ability to shoot at F5.6 to F6.3 - it's pretty sweet lens to add to my collection.

Such a compact lightweight lens for this long long range. So easily hand held with the brilliant built in OSS stabilisation, one handed ( or rather single finger-tip ) operation adds to this flexibility and freedom. I simply love this lens

I switched from a Nikon D500 paired with a Sigma 150-600mm C lens to Sony A7iv and this beast. To say the difference between these 2 lenses is night and day is an understatement. It's tack sharp wide open @ 600mm which I could never have said about the Sigma. It feels better in the hand, the zoom ring goes the right way and, even better, it's only a 1/4 turn to go from 200 to 600mm.

Despite numerous emails only £100 of the strated £200 cashback has been received. The serivice ive come to expect

I wanted a zoom lens and looked at cheaper options but I'm glad stuck with the Sony. The stability is incredible, even when zoomed in. All the attached photos are hand held. Quite new to photography and I view this as my first "proper" lens and can't wait to use it more.

Great buy! The biggest lens in my Sony kit. Works great an all my Sony cameras, smooth to operate with pin sharp accuracy. Very pleased with the performance. Love it :)

Excellent sharpness, I do not need any noise/sharpness improvements in most photos. Internal zoom and ergonomics all deliver as expected!

The lens delivers exactly what I wanted which was teh ability to capture sporting moments from a distance. The picture quality is very good. The lens is very easy to use when holding it in my hand as not too heavy.

I bought this lens a couple of weeks ago and am very impressed with the quality of the photos, great closeups of wildlife.

This lens is the best value, not only Sony, but other makes as well. My only observation is that at infinity [focus], contrast and sharpness could be better. I found that a polarising filter helps a lot.

Great lens! And its not crazy expensive! Bought just a month ago and I already have some very nice bird pictures in my collection!

Actually a correct statement as it is heavy, but can be handled without a tripod for wildlife quick shots. It is also a beast of a lens in that I have found it to be very sharp throughout the range and aperture settings. I have not had it long, but have taken quite a few shots of birds and squirrels in my backyard. They are sharp down to the small feathers or tiny hair on these animals. I have not found any noticeable distortion at the edges or chromatic issues with this lens. The zoom works smoothly, and the manual focus is of course electronic, but works perfect. I know if you have a newer camera like an a! or a9, you will be even more pleased than I am with my a7lll and a6500 cameras. I am looking forward to shooting the eclipse this April with this lens.

As a recent Sony shooter, previously Nikon, I am really impressed with this Sony 200-600, its sharp, relatively lightweight and the added bonus of internal zoom, paired with both the A6700 or A1 it really delivers.

Brought this 3 weeks ago. Love the internal zoom as it simplifies sports photography by stopping too much camera movement. Overall very pleased with image quality

My first outing reminded me I'm in a different League with this lens. I have since bought 2x converter and solid tripod and look forward now to trying to get some great wildlife photos

The lens is everything the professionals say it is. Sharp, fast, simply wonderful for wildlife and birds. The only improvement I wish it had was an ARCA foot for tripos/gimbal mounting.

Fast focus, very sharp, good contrast and no change in balance when zooming or focusing. If a little heavy after a long series of shots.

We bought this lens to replace a Sigma 150-600mm for use on our A7s. This really is a cut above what we had. Handles so much better and optically the results are great, noticibly better. Reinforces the reasons to buy the right lens to go with the camera.

It's a great value for money lens. Superb image quality, internal zoom, sharp as a tack.

Great lens…fantastic detail from corner to corner, even wide open!

I bought this a month ago for grandchildren sporting events

Lens is amazing, fast focus, etc... but the soft bag that comes with it is a disappointment, other G/GM lenses have a nice padded pouch, this one comes with a fabric bag you can't attach to your belt/bag.

For those who enjoy photographing animals, this lens is highly recommended because of its ability to catch fine details, delicate feather patterns, and vivid plumage. Sharpness and fast autofocus allow for superb, blur-free shots in low light. Its portability increases the lens's appeal, allowing birdwatchers to discover the wetland's varied avian species without having to lug around heavy gear.

I should start by saying I've been really happy with my 100-400mm GM. It's just that on occasion I've yearned for a little extra reach and this provides that. I especially like the internal zoom and it's short movement of the zoom ring. I'm a little disappointed in the minimum focus distance (2.4m) as it means I have to change back to the 100-400mm to photograph butterflies at a reasonable magnification. A focus recall facility such as found on Canon would be really nice but maybe I'm asking a lot of just a G lens especially since it performs more like a GM. I've yet to try it with a teleconverter but my expectation is I'm unlikely to choose that as an option.

brought just over 2 weeks ago. been out few times, getting used the weight as is heavy lens. very happy with results so far. end month be best test for me at BTCC. Reason got lens.

Best lens for wild photography and good for birds photography

A brilliant lens but i have a bad shoulder and it was to heavyfor me i had to swop it for a the 100-400 lens it cost more but alot lighter

I have had this lens a short while now and love it. Superb image quality and super fast focus. A dream for wildlife.

Would love to but Sony wont let me. They keep wanting to moderate my reviews.

I have owned this lens for nearly two years. It’s a great lens for wildlife photopghry. I use it predominantly handheld and have some great results. The quarter turn zoom ring is a very handy thing to be able to pick up a subject at 200mm then zoom in to 600mm with one small twist is great. I love the fact the lens is an internal zoom, it’s very useful in hides where you are zooming in and out particularly behind glass where the traditional zoom extension would mean moving back and forwards. For me the lens does feel a little heavy if used for a long session handheld but its worth the effort for the extra reach. I do on occasions use the 1.4x extender and again have had some great results. If your looking for a versatile lens that give great results then this is a good choice .

I purchased the lens for a special trip to visit some Pandas. Mounted on a AR7V this lens has opened up a new dimension to my photography, it’s tracking abilities are a complement to the camera. I will upload some images following my trip in September. All I can say is this lens is highly recommended. Superb

Just being able to see the details of my subjects were amazing! Being able to select exactly which subject I wanted makes me in full control! No regrets buying this monster of a lens!
